Lecture Notes on Testing Monotonicity
نویسنده
چکیده
Leaving the land of algebraic functions behind us, we find the notion of a monotone function most appealing. The definition of this notion presumes a partial order on the domain of the function and a total order on its range. We say that f : D → R is monotone if, for every x, y ∈ D if x < y (according to the partial order on D), then f(x) ≤ f(y) (according to the order on R). The most natural partially ordered domains are the total order on the “line” [n] = {1, 2, ..., n} and the partial order on the hypercube {0, 1}l. Interpolating these two case, we consider the Department of Computer Science, Weizmann Institute of Science, Rehovot, Israel.

Factors affecting students tendency of Univercity students to Lecture Notes
Introduction: Many studies detected factors contributing to the students’ tendency to lecture notes. This study aimed at evaluating the factors affecting students tendency to lecture notes in Hormozgan University of Medical Sciences. Methods: In this descriptive study, 179 students from medicine, nursing & midwifery, health, and Paramedicine schools were selected through stratified random...
متن کاملIMS Lecture Notes–Monograph Series Mixtures and Monotonicity: a Review of Estimation under Monotonicity Constraints
Monotone and multiply monotone densities have well-known mixture representations. The underlying mixture representations give rise to a wide variety of fascinating inverse problems. We review the forward problems (estimation of the mixed density) and the inverse problems (estimation of the mixing distribution in two different guises), including Hampel’s bird resting time problem and generalizat...
متن کاملBig Data on the Rise? - Testing Monotonicity of Distributions
The field of property testing of probability distributions, or distribution testing, aims to provide fast and (most likely) correct answers to questions pertaining to specific aspects of very large datasets. In this work, we consider a property of particular interest, monotonicity of distributions. We focus on the complexity of monotonicity testing across different models of access to the distr...
متن کاملLecture Notes on Testing Graph Properties in the Dense Graph Model
Organization. The current lecture is the first out of a series of three lectures that cover three models for testing graph properties. In each model, we spell out the definition of property testing (when specialized to that model), present some of the known results, and demonstrate some of the ideas involved (by focusing on testing Bipartiteness, which seems a good benchmark). We start the curr...
متن کاملTesting Techniques
Prologue Testing is an important technique to check and control software quality. It is part of almost any software development project. Time and resources devoted to testing may vary from 30% up to 70% of a project's resources. Yet, testing is often an underexposed and underestimated part of software development. Also academic research and education in testing are rather low compared with the ...
